I Am God’s Workmanship

Ephesians 2:10 Amplified
For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].

I recently had my first “Painting with a Twist Experience”. When I walked into the studio I discovered that there was a seat assigned to me. It had my name on the supplies that I would need along with a blank canvas containing the outline of the object we would paint. Since I was in the great state of Louisiana it should have been no surprise that we would paint a fleur de lis. As the session began I discovered the studio staff had a fleur de lis already painted and completed. Being that we are all unique individuals no two paintings would have been an exact match to the painting the studio created, but it served as a guide of what our finished product would come close to resembling. As the session started we were instructed to pick a color and draw an outline around the shape. Every so many minutes the instructor would guide us through the next steps. He told us which color to use and the technique. If we needed assistance or struggled in some areas the instructor was there to assist us and guide us through to our completed master piece. As I reflected on my painting experience I was reminded that our spiritual lives mimic this painting experience.

“For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew]…”
We are God’s creative and unique creation. “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27 NKJV) When we receive salvation our sins are forgiven and we become new creatures in Christ. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV) We are like a blank canvas ready for our new journey in Christ. We will never be perfect beings, but we should strive to resemble our maker. His desire is for us to grow spiritually and become more like Him each day.

“That we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time]…”
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV) God has a plan and a purpose for each one of our lives. You might refer to it as your purpose or your calling. Many times when we hear the word “calling” or the statement “I was called to…” we think it is associated with pulpit preaching, but that is not always the case. Each one of us has something on the inside of us that is unique to whom God created us to be. We have this special “gift” to do good works for the kingdom of God. Some may have the calling to work with elderly people, some may have a calling to assist with children, some may have a calling to encourage others, some have a calling of administration, some have a calling to feed the homeless, some have the calling to teach in some capacity. There are many other callings, but my point is that no matter what it is in some capacity it should be tied to bring glory to God. Because God put it in you your calling is something you enjoy doing. It is something that comes natural to you. Whatever the calling on your life is God predestined you to accomplish it before you were even placed on this earth.

“That we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].”
Just like the studio I was in had a finished photo as my guide and someone that guided me to my completed masterpiece God is with us. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) Hope means an “expected end.” God has work He desires all of us to accomplish and a life He desires us to live. The only way to know what our purpose is is to seek God on the matter. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. “ (James 1:5 NKJV) I love a quote I recently heard by T.D. Jakes, “We should be the highest and best expression of ourselves.” God is there to lead us and guide us every step of our journey to be the best us He created us to be. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way.” (Psalm 37:23)

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10 NKJV)

As you reflect on who you are in Christ be reminded today that you are a Masterpiece. You are God’s workmanship. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) to do great things for God. Walk in your purpose and your destiny by being who God uniquely created you to be. Be Blessed and Be Encouraged.

Prayer
Heavenly Father thank you for making us the unique individuals that we are. Help each of us to be a doer of your word. Give us the wisdom, knowledge, and revelation of your purpose for our lives. Each one of us has something planted on the inside of us called purpose. Now it is time for purpose to blossom in our lives so that we may accomplish your perfect will in us and through us. Lead us and guide us to be the highest and best expression of our being that we may bring you glory in all that you would have us to do. In Jesus Name. Amen
